BACKGROUND INFO

Hansard Transcripts

We recommend that you review the discussions held in the Legislative Assembly for yourself by going to the Handsard transcripts.

[These transcripts from the Legislature are a good source of information as to which MLAs are trying to help, and which are not. Just do a search in whatever year you want for "pine shakes", and then for "pine shake". When the Legislature is sitting, you should frequently link to the 1999 session for updates - which are generally posted the following day.]

You will note that Hugh MacDonald, the Liberal labour critic, is working hard to get to the bottom of this problem, and to prevent it from happening again.

He has been "holding the feet" of the government in general, and the Minister of Labour in particular, "to the fire", but for the most part has been ignored in the Legislature.

Read some of the questions he has posed to the Conservative government, and you'll see that their responses typically evade the question.

Despite personal attacks on him by certain officials, he has tried to make our present government accountable for errors made in the past by the Don Getty government. He has also taken this government to task for allowing the use of the PQ57 spray on rooftops (using a product for a purpose which the manufacturer never intended), and for allowing treated pine shakes into the building code without adequate testing. Deja vu?! Here we go again!
